She also worked as a public health school nurse in St. Paul Minnesota. In total, she worked as a Public Health Nurse for seven years before returning to school to become a physician.

In 1987, Wendy Huempfner left the nursing profession to further her career in medicine by enrolling in the University of Minnesota Medical School where they had the first Preventative Health Medical Curriculum in the United States. While attending medical school, she supervised a team at a long-term care facility that cared for elderly and handicap individuals. Since then, she has explored her two passions fully, Women’s Health and Integrative Medicine. She studied Ayurvedic Medicine at the Center for Higher Consciousness in Minneapolis, Minnesota and in Sri Lanka between her 2nd and 3rd year of medical school.

As part of the curriculum at the Medical School of the University of Minnesota, she completed study in the Program for Human Sexuality under Sharon Satterfield. She continues to use the valuable learnings from the program in her practice when helping women with female sexual issues including decreased libido, painful intercourse and sexually transmitted infections.

She started her Obstetrical Gynecologic Internship at the St. Paul Ramsey Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. She completed her OBGYN residency at the University of Arizona Medical Center. She has since been in private practice in Tucson providing an integrative gynecological medical center for women in Tucson. Her practice, Wendy Huempfner, MD - Women’s Health and Integrative Medical Center, focuses on healing the whole woman, the intellect, the form, and the spirit.  They are all related.
